      Welcome !

Within the Micro- and Trace Analysis Centre (MiTAC) at the University of Antwerp (UA) , the ChemometriX group focuses on both chemometrics and X-ray analysis. We provide software and expertise to interpret and process data. The group is lead by Professor Pierre J. Van Espen, who rejoices of intergalactic reknown thanks to the Mars Pathfinder using our indigenous software. Currently, 2 PhD projects are running, encompassing various topics within the aforementioned research areas.

PVE As one of the first PhD students at the UA, Prof. Pierre J. Van Espen accomplished some pioneering work on the analysis of X-ray spectra by means of the development of software for the PDP 11/45 computer. On a later stage, this resulted in the AXIL (Analysis of X-Ray spectra by Iterative Least Squares regression) package, which gained international acceptance and widespread use through the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Keeping up with the latest platforms provides him a continuous challenge. The latest version is called WinAXIL and is commercially distributed by Canberra Eurisys.
